Anne Maggs: I Never Died Before
08/13/2019 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Anne Maggs shares her innovative, thoughtful guide to our final journey: I Never Died Before: a survival guide to aging and beyond. Based on the belief that aging is a natural process and not a medical emergency, this fictional novella is written in two parts: a fetching story of two elderly ladies who write advice columns on how to age with courage, and a companion workbook designed for the reader to examine their own journey of aging.
This is not a book about living longer; this is a book about aging with courage. Based on the belief that aging is a natural process and not a medical emergency, I Never Died Before prepares readers for the emotional and unpredictable journey of aging and dying. The story follows two elderly women striving to remain in their beloved Victorian mansion by writing advice columns on the hard choices facing seniors. Each column has a companion exercise to explore such issues as: making pro-active housing decisions, weighing the risks and benefits of proposed medical treatments, filling out advance directives, writing final letters to loved ones, and funeral planning.
As a professor of business and entrepeneurship, Anne Maggs developed an award-winning instructional innovation: writing educational novels to introduce students to curriculum materials. Using this award-winning approach, she has written a story accompanied by journal exercises to share her findings with both seniors and adult children concerned about their parents.
