East meets west in this action-packed middle grade novel, Brother Beast, from Leavenworth author Amy Carlson.

Teague can't stand his brother Rory, who's become a bully, a butt-nugger, and a middle school monster. One night Teague feels the floor shudder and hears the splintering of wood and the shattering of glass. He watches as a dragon-like silhouette rises into the sky. Hanging from its claws is a limp form... his brother Rory.

This catapults Teague into a quest he really does not want to go on. To succeed, he will have to do more than find his brother: he must come to terms with his mother's death, solve the riddle of the dragons, tame the spirit of the tiger, revive the song of the phoenix; and unravel the mystery of the beast within himself... that's all, simple.

Amy Greimann Carlson wears a silver ear cuff with a dangly and eats grilled Hummel’s hotdogs from New Haven. When she’s not reading Basho or pilgrimaging in Japan, she is teaching children the power of words as Dr. Fu in Avra Kedavra Kamp, storytelling, writing Yessence Poetry, and professoring at Wenatchee Valley College. She is coeditor of Travelers Tales’ Japan and has also written for or edited other anthologies in the award-winning series: A Woman’s Path, The Gift of Birds, Australia, and A Woman’s Asia.
