In this special session of words for birds, four local authors read their avian-inspired poetry and prose. Award-winning Derek Sheffield, author of Not For Luck, Through the Second Skin, and more; Heather Durham, acclaimed author of Wolf Tree and Going Feral; award-winning Cynthia Neely, author of Broken Water, Flight Path, and Passing Through Blue Earth; and Pushcart-nominated Jacqueline Haskins, poet and author of an upcoming wellness book, will share bird-themed lyrical thoughts on the lawn at Wenatchee River Institute. Book-signing and bird-gossip follow the reading.

Birdfest Keynote - A Thousand Blended Notes: A Life of Birds and Poems. Poet and birder Derek Sheffield will give a presentation on the unique and ancient connection that exists between poets and birds. This talk will combine personal observations with more general ones and include poems by Sheffield in addition to those by other contemporary poets such as Mary Oliver, Eamon Grennan, Drew Lanham, Naomi Shihab Nye, Gary Snyder, Jan Wallace, and Pattiann Rogers.
