Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna joins celebrated Eastern WA poets Joe Powell, Derek Sheffield, and Jack Johnson in a reading at Leavenworth Library. Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna is the author of the collection Killing Marias, and the chapbook This City. As Seattle's first Civic Poet, she won acclaim for her Seattle Poetic Grid, an online interactive map showcasing poems about different locations around the city. Derek Sheffield’s poetry collections include Through the Second Skin, finalist for the Washington State Book Award, and A Revised Account of the West, winner of the Hazel Lipa Environmental Chapbook Award. He teaches poetry and ecological writing at Wenatchee Valley College, and is the poetry editor of Terrain.org. Jack Johnson and his wife live on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in Peshastin, Washington. His poetry has been published in Terrain.org and elsewhere. He teaches English and philosophy at Wenatchee Valley College. Joseph Powell has published seven books of poetry--including The Slow Subtraction, Hard Earth and Preamble to the Afterlife--and co-authored a textbook on meter in poetry. His book of short stories, Fish Grooming & Other Stories, was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. He won a National Endowment for the Arts award, and the Distinguished Professor for Artistic Accomplishment Award. He is an emeritus professor at Central Washington University.
