Wildlife author and artist Tony Angell brings House of Owls to Snowy Owl.

The heart of Angell’s compelling new release, House of Owls, is his personal account of an artist-naturalist’s life with owls. Angell also discusses the unique characteristics that distinguish owls, and provides a fascinating overview of the impact owls have had on human culture and thought. He describes in scientific detail the nineteen species of owls found in North America, as well as their close relatives elsewhere.

Angell’s extensive illustrations show owls engaged in what owls do—hunting, courting, raising families, and exercising their inquisitive natures—and reveal his immeasurable respect for their secret lives and daunting challenges. Always emphasizing the interaction of humans and owls, the author affirms by his own example the power of these birds both to beguile and to inspire.

Tony Angell’s numerous books include In the Company of Crows and Ravens and Gifts of the Crow, both co-authored with John Marzluff. Author, illustrator and sculptor, Angell has won numerous awards including the Leigh Yawkey Master Artist Award, and the Victoria and Albert Museum Illustration Award. A retired director of environmental education, Angell is a Nature Conservancy board member. He received the Nature Conservancy's Golden Oak Leaf Award, and was elected into the University of Washington’s Hall of Fame. He lives in Seattle with his family.

"Because of its shape, color, pattern and hardness, the stone has its own story to tell." – Tony Angell
