We'll Have A Stomping Good Time with Alaska's Fiddling Poet!

Sunday, May 11, 1:00-3:00 pm is the day that Ken Waldman makes his first Leavenworth appearance in more than four years as he returns to A Book for All Seasons. There, Waldman will play fiddle, read poems from some of his recent collections, tell stories, and sign copies of books and CDs.

"Waldman, a former college professor and Philadelphia native, moved to Alaska twenty years ago and has been a traveling minstrel for more than ten years. He brings his instruments, a few fellow musicians, and his poems about surviving a plane crash (locals once called him 'a walking dead man'), watching grizzlies feed in a garbage dump, and other adventures in the forty-ninth state."
- The New Yorker, "Above and Beyond" (January, 2006)

"Picture William Carlos Williams behind a dogsled. Walt Whitman jamming with the Carter Family." - Michael Miller, music columnist for The State in Columbia, South Carolina.

To Live on This Earth was Waldman's second collection of poems and his poetry touches everything from humor to seduction the range in his poetry covers everything humor to elegies, from storytelling to politics. Waldman is a true original.

As Our Summer Reading Series Begins...Make Way for Mrs. Perfect!

Our Summer Reading Series is gearing up with a list of fun must reads just perfect for the beach, the plane, or just kicking back on the deck! Read the books, meet the authors and enjoy your summer!

Author, Jane Porter Joins A Book for All Seasons on Sunday, May 25th from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.

Mrs. Perfect is first up in the series. It is the delightful follow-up to the hit Odd Mom Out and it's already garnering fantastic reviews!

"Just in time for summer, Porter delivers another fine batch of mommy lit." - Publisher's Weekly

"...The witty first-person narration keeps things lively in Porter's latest. Taylor's neurotic fussiness provides both vicarious thrills and laughs before Taylor moves on to self awareness and a new kind of empowerment. The glittery high-end fantasy is delivered with enough humor to leaven the silliness, making this a feel-good read." - Kirkus Reviews

Can't make the afternoon book signing? Not to worry! Jane will be joining Eagle Creek Winery at the d'Vinery Tasting Room across from Gustav's for A Taste of Wine and Words from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

With a degree from Scripps College in Claremont, California and an MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, Bonny Becker worked as a journalist, an editor, and a corporate communications manager before finding her true love, writing for children. Often tongue-in-cheek and always loads of fun, Jennifer Worick's books are chock full of useful tips and info! You don't have to be Laura Ingalls Wilder to enjoy The Prairie Girl's Guide to Life: How to Sew a Sampler Quilt & 49 Other Pioneer Projects for the Modern Girl and if you prefer Kate Spade to L.L. Bean, that's perfectly acceptable when reading BackCountry Betty: Roughing it in Style.

Driven by her own interests and passions, Jen has built a reputation as a best-selling author who delivers pithy yet personal nonfiction books for women. Join us on Saturday, May 3rd and spend some time with Jennifer out on our treehouse balcony. In no time at all, you'll see why her witty writing style has enabled Jennifer to leave her job as a publishing professional in only a few short years to author or co-author more than 20 books on a wide range of topics.

Book Camp is Coming!

Every summer since 2002, the outside balcony of A Book for All Seasons has been transformed. There was a wordplay cafe filled with serendipitous language collisions and a whole lot of gobblefunking in 2007 with Roald Dahl and The BFG and in 2006 it became a laboratory filled with mad scientists and bubbling potions. In 2005 it became a place for odd characters read out of books and in 2004, a ship, complete with brig and a crew of crafty rascals. In 2003, an 'unfortunate place' and a princess' sitting room and our first year, in 2002, a sisterhood gathering porch, covered with pants. 2008 promises to be as zany as ever with Poe Camp on the horizon. The final details are to remain a mystery (we can't give away all of our secrets, now can we?), but we can tell you that it's a camp full of imagining, eating, writing, crafting, imagining, learning, reading, laughing, and more imagining!

There is still space available, but don't delay - Camp slots often fill up and waiting lists start early! Follow this link to find more information or to sign up! You can also call us with questions at 509-548-1451.
